01.08.08 - 1 year later

At 8 o’clock in the morning on August 1, 2008, a car of Georgian police blew up on a mine. Because of a blast, five Georgian police officers were seriously injured. From the afternoon of August 1, until the next morning South Ossetian and Georgian forces were exchanging fire, consequently six Ossetian soldiers were killed, 13 people were injured.

Moscow Metro suicide bombings pictures photo

At least 37 people have been killed when two female suicide bombers blew themselves up on Moscow Metro trains in the morning rush hour on March 29, officials say.

The first blast occurred in the central Lubyanka station at 03:56 GMT, killing 14 people inside a train and 11 on the platform.

The second explosion came about 40 minutes later at the Park Kultury station, where 12 people were killed.

Moscow's metro is one of the busiest subways in the world, carrying some 5.5m passengers a day.
